Dear Music Director: THE ISSUE OF RESPONSIBILITY 2

“As rewarding as leading a choir is, there are always challenges.”
How can you as a choral leader, imbibe a sense of responsibility into your choir members, even when some adamantly refuse to step up and take up responsibility?

You can assume that people should just know what to do, but in reality, sometimes you have to not just tell them WHAT to do, but also show them the HOW, and patiently at that.

Dear Music Director: THE ISSUE OF RESPONSIBILITY 1

In my experience, majority of the challenges we face in the choir arise from members who do not want to be held responsible for their actions.

Character is the foundation for an effective ministry. God is more interested in your heart than your ministry because ministry flows from the heart. If your heart is not right, simply put, your ministry cannot be right.
By your heart, I mean your attitude, intentions and motives in your dealings with God and Man.
Just as secular jobs and professions have a dress code, so we as called ministers (Christians) need to be clothed in a certain way.Col 3:12-15. To be effective in ministry, you must ‘wear’ the character of Christ, keeping in mind that the most important encounter in ministry is not people’s encounter with you, but their encounter with Jesus. You are simply called to set up that encounter.
