GOD IS THE FOUNDATION AND ALL

God is the foundation and all. Acts 17:28

written by W.N. Vincent

The word FOUNDATION has several definitions. One of the quickest definitions that come to mind when we think about a foundation is;

- the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level. (Oxford)

While this definition is correct, aligning to the perspective of God about who he is to us as the Foundation, we see that God doesn’t want to be seen or thought of as just “the load-bearing part” of our lives and ministry, even if that is a picture of who he is.

The reason for this is, the foundation, though hugely important to the longevity of the building, is in the ground. It gets old, dirty, and it oftentimes becomes an afterthought when people talk about the ‘glory’ of the house, as it is the nature of Man to be forgetful.

God wants us to see him as the Foundation of our lives and ministry in a broader sense.

Another definition of the word Foundation is;

- an underlying basis or principle upon which every other thing is built. (Oxford)

Looking at God as the foundation of our life in this perspective is so important. Why? Because it is possible to remember God as the foundation ONLY when there is a load to bear. This invariably means we only remember God when there is are problems in our lives. Or only when there is a struggle that is beyond us.

God wants us to see him as not only the foundation of our lives, but also the PILLARS that hold us up, the ROOF that covers us, and the AESTHETIC that makes us beautiful. He wants us to see him not as a part of the house, but the whole house; and he is rightfully all of these and more!

No wonder Paul said,

“For in Him we live and move and exist [that is, in Him we actually have our being]…”

Acts 17:28 AMP.

This means, outside of him we cannot live, we cannot move, and we cannot have an existence. (John 1:13. Col 1:16)

HOW DOES UNDERSTANDING THIS AFFECT THE WAY WE GO ABOUT OUR MINISTRY, AS MUSIC MINISTERS?

Here are some questions I need you to ponder on and answer SINCERELY;

– Do you wait on God with the same passion and hunger to see him revealed to his people in smaller gatherings, as you do in larger gatherings?

– If you are invited to minister in a gathering of 20 people, will you pray, fast, and practice with your musical instrument, to the same degree and intensity you would if the gathering was 200 or 2,000 people?

This is the mindset we oftentimes carry;

“Oh! It is a smaller gathering of 50 people. I can handle this.”

But when it is a larger gathering of 5,000 people we run to God for ‘his grace and help’.

No! In many ways, the attitude expressed when you are to minister before 50 people shows a subtle sense of pride, and a total lack of dependence on God to help you.

We must understand that in every sense of it, it is not by our power, might, or understanding. It is ALWAYS by the Spirit of God. (Zach. 4:6)

God wants us to understand that he is God at all times, and for every situation. Hence, we need his help at all times and in all situations.

When we understand this, we will realize that we need the help and grace of God to do ministry at all levels; whether on-stage or off-stage.

Remember, God is not just the foundation that is hidden away in the ground. No. God is the foundation upon which the structure of your life and ministry stands.

And if you will succeed in life and ministry, you need to also recognize him as the pillar that holds your life (the strength of your life, Psalm 27:1, and the one who brings balance to your life); the roof that covers your life and ministry (the Lord your protector and shield, Psalm 18:2); and the very one who adds color and beauty to your destiny (Isaiah 61:3).

I pray that God energizes your spirit to continually hunger and thirst for Him, to see his power in your life and in His Church, and to continually depend on him in all situations; in ministry, family and relationship, finance, and life in general.

Shalom.
